5 Easy Natural Baby Recipes You Can Make Yourself

If you are like me, then you try to use the most natural products you can find on your baby. Have you looked at the ingredients list of some of that stuff? Even some of the “All Natural” products are chock full of harmful chemicals and additives. So how can you be sure that only the very best ingredients are touching that adorable tush? Make your own! It is easier than you think.

Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is chock full of Lauric Acid which is a natural disinfectant and antimicrobial. It also has a significant amount of vitamin E and has been shown to block up to 20% of UV rays from the sun.

Shea ButterShea Butter boasts powerful anti-fungal,  anti-yeast and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also high in vitamin A and vitamin E which helps promote collagen production in your skin. Shea Butter also offers some sun protection with an SPF of 6.

Bentonite Clay: Bentonite clay has the unique ability to produce an electrical charge when hydrated. No, this does not mean it will shock your baby. In fact it means that upon contact with fluid, its electrical components change, giving it the ability to absorb toxins, heavy metals, impurities and chemicals. ALWAYS USE A WOOD OR PLASTIC SPOON AND BOWL (metal deactivates the clay)

Zinc Oxide: Zinc helps repair damaged tissue and heal wounds. It is particularly helpful with treating topical irritations and injuries, such as acne, skin sores and minor wounds, by helping cells to regenerate.

Beeswax: Acting as a surfactant, beeswax, when blended into cold creams and other skin lotions, forms a protective barrier on the surface of the skin. This barrier provides a film of protection against irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe.

Butt Paste:

This is super easy and if you felt up to it you could add a baby-safe essential oil to make it smell super awesome.

Ingredients:

1/8 cup beeswax

2/3 cup coconut oil

1 TBS bentonite clay OR zinc oxide

Using a typical double boiler set up ( glass bowl on top of simmering water) melt the beeswax and coconut oil. The beeswax will take a while to melt so chop it up in the smallest pieces you can. Add the bentonite clay (if you’re using Zinc Oxide be careful not to inhale it) and mix it until there are no clumps. If you are going to add essential oil now would be the time to mix that in as well. Pour into small glass container (4oz or 8oz ball canning jars are great for this) ALWAYS USE A WOOD OR PLASTIC SPOON AND BOWL (metal deactivates the clay)

Diaper Wipe Solution:

If you cloth diaper than making your own wipes is only natural. You can easily use baby washcloths or small squares of a soft fabric that won’t fray (like fleece or felt).

Ingredients:

1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E oil

1 tablespoon of coconut oil

1 tablespoon of castile soap

1 cup of distilled water

Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle. Store your wipe solution next to your baby changing station. Shake lightly and spray on wipes when ready to use.

Massage Oil:

This ones super easy. Just scoop out a handful of coconut oil and rub your baby down. You could add some essential oil like Lavender if you use massage as part of your nighttime routine. ( always check with an aromatherapist to make sure your essential oils are baby friendly before using!)

Baby Lotion:

1/2 cup of food safe oil (olive, almond, etc)

1/4 cup coconut oil

1/4 beeswax

1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil

2 tablespoons Shea Butter

Combine all ingredients in a double boiler setup. (glass bowl over simmering water) Stir occasionally. Continue to cook until all ingredients are melted together then pour into glass jars and allow to cool. This is super hydrating and a little goes a LONG way.

Kid Friendly, Chemical Free Tooth-Paste:

OK, so this is not technically for babies. Those adorable little squishies will eventually turn into exploring tykes and trust me they will make a beeline for the toothpaste. Better make sure you know what’s in it.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup coconut oil

1 tablespoon of baking soda

1 tablespoon of bentonite clay

1/4 teaspoon of liquid stevia

4-10 drops of kid friendly essential oil (sweet orange, lemon or peppermint.)

Mix together the coconut oil, baking soda and bentonite clay until there are no lumps left. Add the stevia and essential oil and store in a squeezable tube.

ALWAYS USE A WOOD OR PLASTIC SPOON AND BOWL(metal deactivates the clay)

  1. I did not know homemade butt paste was a thing! Definitely trying this for my son – not comfortable with a lot of the ingredients in a lot of the store bought products!

  2. I make lots of things at home like deodorant, body butter and even some supplements I make myself. Thank you for this blog post I will likely be making the butt paste for a new mama soon.
